چکیده

Due to occupational activities, many people are exposed carcinogenic airborne pollutants, such as benzene. Furthermore, benzene is also present in cigarette smoke. The main cancers associated with benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) lung cancer malignancies of the blood. At initial stages, often asymptomatic, but progression into metastasis a huge clinical concern. We performed review on possible biomarkers for monitoring increased genome instability downregulation immune system connection overexposure BTEX subgroup workers being at Brazilian gas stations. subject routine blood exams every semester; however, early genomic assessment not routine. evaluated available tests be applied, including measuring benzene-derived metabolites urine, determination oxidative inflammatory markers blood, immunophenotypical profiling, micronucleus test, comet (single-cell gel electrophoresis) assay, (molecular) cytogenetics, chromosomal microarray, epigenetic-changes oriented tests, mitochondrial (mt)DNA copy numbers, studies miRNA-level. However, no consensus was reached about their application which test combination might suited best.

Biomarkers of environmental benzene exposure.

Environmental exposures to benzene result in increases in body burden that are reflected in various biomarkers of exposure, including benzene in exhaled breath, benzene in blood and urinary trans-trans-muconic acid and S-phenylmercapturic acid. A review of the literature indicates that these biomarkers can be used to distinguish populations with different levels of exposure (such as smokers fro...

Evaluation of biomarkers for occupational exposure to benzene.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the relations between environmental benzene concentrations and various biomarkers of exposure to benzene. METHODS Analyses were carried out on environmental air, unmetabolised benzene in urine, trans, trans-muconic acid (ttMA), and three major phenolic metabolites of benzene; catechol, hydroquinone, and phenol, in two field studies on 64 workers exposed to benzene concen...

Pseudohyphae formation in Candida glabrata due to CO2 exposure

Background and Purpose: Formation of pseudohyphae is considered a virulence factor in Candida species. Generally, Candida glabrata grows as budding yeast cells; however, reports illustrated that C. glabrata could form pseudohyphal cells in response to some stimuli. In this study, we provided insight into the ability of C. glabrata in forming pseudohyphal cells under different levels of carbon d...
